PHAM THI LAN HUONG, CTCI VIETNAM BEST EMPLOYEE OF 2017: “KNOWING IS NOT ENOUGH, WE MUST APPLY. WISHING IS NOT ENOUGH, WE MUST DO”Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan
“Wake at dawn with winged heart
and give thanks for another day of loving” (-Kahlil Gibran)
“These two poem sentences have long been my life inspiration and at this moment when I am honored to be awarded the prize “CTCI Vietnam Best Employee of the Year 2017”, they immediately come into my mind. Thank life for leading me to CTCI Vietnam where I have numerous days of love with the best colleagues, trusted friends and most interesting works,” Lan Huong said.
When being asked about her first impression on CTCI Vietnam, Huong replied in her glittering eyes and cheerful voice: “I will never forget that day when I came to CTCI Vietnam for job application. The receptionist welcome me with the warmest smile that I have never seen before. It made me feel this company is so friendly and seemed to have something so close to me” Hương shared.
She continued “CTCI Vietnam is not my first company but it is the first that makes me feel of a great family. It gives me chances to work with wonderful colleagues and experienced specialists who are not only talent but also very helpful and sincere. I learn from them their profound knowledge and professional working attitude. For me, every overseas trip is a valuable experience that I always respect,” Huong said.
Talking about his staff, Mr. Duan, Piping Deputy Manager emphasized: “In Piping Department, material is one of the most important sections. The on-time schedule of an engineering project is mainly decided by material data base. Similarly, the profit of one EPC project is dependent on the prompt material purchase at the reasonable time. Any right or wrong selection of material may cause direct impact on the project cost. Realizing the importance of the material portion, CTCI Vietnam BOD decided to dispatch engineer to CTCI headquarter for training. And there’s no candidate more suitable than Huong because she owns all characters fitting the requirement of this position: carefulness, accuracy, reliability and proactiveness. It is a great opportunity for her but also a heavy responsibility that we put on her shoulders.”
“Last year, Huong did a good job when she successfully completed her assignment in designing and selecting material for both quotation and execution projects of which, FHS Coal Chemical Plant and Maxihub are the outstanding ones. For FHS Coal Chemical Plant Project, she had to study a pile of documents, standards, requirements provided by owner, client and licensor in both English and Chinese. She also had to adapt many local codes prominent for this project to create all piping and instrument material specifications which were highly appreciated by CSCC,” Mr. Kien, her Piping Department Manager commented.
For Maxihub Project, material selection was one of the most difficult issues because it seemed to be started from zero. Beside studying many international and local standards, Huong had to learn how to operate Marian system – the most updated system specially used for material work. She has been the first CTCI Vietnam Marian engineer trained by CTCI experts up till now. During the training course in Taipei, she spent full days for lecture and only had time for designing material SPEC at nights and weekend. And when the training course finished, she also completed material SPEC for both Piping and Instrument portions. Coming back to Vietnam, Huong, on one hand, carries out her assignment, on the other hand, trains other inferiors to make sure that they have enough capability to execute projects on tight schedule with high quality.
When being asked about his “gold employee”, Mr. Kien said: “In work, Huong is responsible and devoted. I always feel ensured when assigning any work to her because I know she will try her best to complete it. She always sets new target and challenges for herself in each period of time. When she meets any new thing or information, regardless of work or other fields, she always takes note for further searching and study. However, in life, Huong is quite timid and shyness. We can ask her to do many difficult works and she will finish them well but she doesn’t dare to speak in the public. Seven years working with her, I really feel pleasant and proud to have her in our team.”
Talking about her conception of work and life, Huong friendly shared: “I always think: “Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Wishing is not enough, we must do” and “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better. Her victory today is the sweet fruits of all her endeavor and devotion and surely, it will be the great motivation for her to reach higher achievements in the future.
